Sending young Canadian professionals out into the World

Young Canadian professionals in banking and finance are given training and overseas experience providing small-scale loans to the poor in developing countries through the Fellowship in International Microfinance and Microenterprise. Sponsored by AKFC and the Canadian International Development Agency, the internship program provides young people with an intensive four-week training program in Canada, followed by an eight-month placement with a South Asian organization involved in the microfinance/microenterprise sector. The program is helping to spread the successful microfinance model through disadvantaged populations as well as bring it back to Canada. Additionally, the Fellowship in International Development Management offers university graduates specialized development management training in Canada and overseas work experience with a non-government organization in South Asia. It is aimed at young Canadians with a clear commitment to international development who seek an additional "stepping-stone" building their professional careers. The two programs are enlarging the pool of young Canadians able to lead the country's future development efforts.

Spreading Canadians skills overseas

The Canadian Development Exchange builds the long-term capacity of AKFC's partner organizations through short- and medium-term placements of skilled Canadian professionals. Such experts train and strengthen social service organizations in developing countries in Africa and Asia. The program also seeks to enlarge the number of Canadians with international experience that can contribute to the global strategies of Canadian organizations.
